Lodz District Office Starostwo Powiatowe Łódzkie (Sygn. 2121)

The Lodz District Office records include Security and Order Department records, administrative and military records, construction reports, welfare records, industrial reports and statistics, and information on foreign residents. Security and Order Department records document political parties, elections, social organizations, confiscations, employee reviews, natural disasters, foreigners, foreign passports, emigration, gun permits, and entertainment venues. Administrative records including certificates of loss or granting of citizenship and records about consular services, population movement, religion, river regulation, and provisioning. Military records document conscription, benefits, and physical education. Construction reports document orders, instructions, control, and building permits. Social welfare office records document welfare associations and social action. Between 1919 and 1939, the Lodz District Office functioned under the regulation of the Council of Ministers of August 28, 1919 on the temporary organization of poviat administrative authorities and the executive regulation of November 13, 1919. It was responsible for maintaining public safety and peace as well as supervising public premises, associations, assemblies, press, shows, foreigners, criminal and moral police, weapons and ammunition, order on roads and streets, matters arising from the provisions on transport of people and goods by motor vehicles, activities of the poviat council of general administration on criminal and administrative proceedings, and development of mobilization issues ordered by the voivode.
