Československá vládní komise pro stíhání nacistických válečných zločinců
The fonds contains the records of the Czechoslovak Government Commission for the Prosecution of Nazi War Criminals, including organizational matters, correspondence received, records of its meetings, requests for the extradition of Nazi criminals, documents documenting the crimes committed, lists of war criminals, memorial files, writings to Nazi judges, etc. The Czechoslovak Government Commission for the Prosecution of Nazi War Criminals was established in February 1965 to search for and try war criminals who committed crimes on the territory of Czechoslovakia during World War II. As a state institution headed by the Minister of Justice, the Commission became the exclusive point of contact with the judicial authorities of Germany and Austria and also with similar institutions in the socialist countries. It was to actively fight for the non-proscription of war crimes. The most important person in the commission was its secretary, Dr. Karel Kámiš. During its existence it investigated some 700 possible war criminals and prepared 90 cases with requests for prosecution, which were sent to the Federal Republic of Germany, where, however, not a single case was brought to trial. The Commission was abolished in March 1990 by the Czechoslovak government.
