Úřad československého delegáta v komisi pro stíhání válečných zločinců

The fonds contains case file material from the activities of the office from 1945 to 1948, and partially also files from 1942 onwards, but this material is not complete (31 boxes in total). Another group consists of incomplete cyclostyled material from the sessions of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, both stenographic records of individual sessions of the main trial of 24 war criminals and documentary material relating to these sessions. Unfortunately, even these materials are not complete. The fonds also contains incomplete registers and lists of war criminals and personal correspondence of Bohuslav Ecer and his secretary Miluše Kašlíková. On October 20, 1942, the United Nations Commission for the Prosecution of War Crimes was established to prepare and collect materials on the mass crimes committed by Nazi Germany. Czechoslovakia was represented in this commission by its member Bohuslav Ečer, appointed on September 24, 1943. The delegate's task was to represent the Czechoslovak government, submit proposals of general international legal significance in accordance with the Czechoslovak position and Czechoslovak interests within the competence of the commission, to submit to the commission indictments against individual war criminals and groups on behalf of the Czechoslovak government and requests for inclusion on the list of war criminals, and from the spring of 1945 he represented Czechoslovakia in international negotiations on the prosecution, extradition, and trial of war criminals. In August 1945, the Czechoslovak delegate to the Commission for the Prosecution of War Criminals also became the Czechoslovak delegate to the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg and, from 1946, the head of the Czechoslovak delegation in Nuremberg. The office of delegate was abolished in 1949.
